A woman was chased and stabbed by a 22-year-old man in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar leaving her with injuries. The incident took place on Friday. Police have arrested the suspect, who was identified as Aman. The girl was saved due to timely intervention of two passers-by. CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media on Sunday morning, sparking outrage.While police are still probing the reason behind the incident, they suspect that the accused wanted to avenge an insult. A stalking angle is also under investigation. According to police, some students in Mukherjee Nagar used to make fun of the perpetrator and called him "crazy" as he used to keep wandering in the area aimlessly. The accused told police that she also made fun of him, which prompted him to pick up a knife from a nearby vegetable vendor and attack her in a fit of rage. The woman who was attacked used to come to area to study in a library there. The stabbing happened after an altercation between the woman and Aman, when she stepped out of the library to buy food. In the CCTV footage, the man can be seen running towards the woman and pushing her down to the ground, after which he stabbed her 4-5 times. The woman did not receive grievous injuries as passers-by were quick to stop the man. DCP (northwest) Jitendra Kumar Meena said that preliminarily charges under section 324 of the IPC have been invoked for causing hurt by using dangerous weapons. Police stated that the accused was earlier also allegedly involved in teasing incidents. The victim, who lost her father earlier, was preparing for competitive examinations. The accused is stated tobe a graduate, residing in Maurice Nagar, and is allegedly suffering from mental health issues.
