A military police officer was shot at when he tried to carry out an approach in Gravataí, in the Metropolitan Region . The case happened in the early hours of Saturday (23), around 2:30 am, in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. The soldier was hit by three shots, but survived. The suspect who fired the shots was killed in a new confrontation with the Military Brigade, hours later.

According to the Military Brigade, a team from the 17th Military Police Battalion (BPM), which patrols with motorcycles, was carrying out approaches, close to the limit with the municipality of Cachoeirinha. The police suspected three suspects on Avenida Jorge Amado, who tried to escape by running.

Images recorded by a security camera show the moment the police officer on a motorcycle approaches the criminal. The man pulls out his gun and shoots repeatedly at the officer. It is believed that at least eight shots were fired. The soldier falls to the ground after being shot, and then draws his own weapon and reacts, shooting in the direction of the criminal, who escapes by running. Soon after, the shooter is pursued by other police officers.

The PM who was shot was hit by three shots: one of them hit his knee and two hit his chest. The bulletproof vest prevented the shots from hitting the officer's chest . He was taken to medical care and needed surgery, but has since been released and is recovering at home.

After the exchange of fire, a siege was carried out by police in the region. That same morning, the police clashed again with a man, who was identified as the same man who shot the police officer . He was killed during the exchange of gunfire. According to the BM, he was 25 years old and had a record of crimes such as drug trafficking, homicide and pedestrian robbery. His name was not released by police.
