Maria Idalice da Silva dos Santos, 47, was run over while crossing the street. She was in a pedestrian crossing when hit by a white Chevrolet Tracker taxi.

The driver stopped, provided assistance, and called the Fire Department. He told police that he saw Maria, but was unable to avoid her in time.

The Fire Department provided first aid and took Maria to Portão Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, at around 11 a.m., she was transferred to the HPS in Canoas. She died that afternoon.

Portão Civil Police are treating this as bodily injury followed by death.

Maria worked as an epidemic control agent at the Portão Municipal Health Department and was on her way to work at the time of the accident.

Secretary of Health, Fábio Beneton, highlighted that all employees are appalled by her death. "She was a model server, an example, a reference. She was always punctual, dedicated in carrying out her tasks, and had a good relationship with everyone. We are deeply saddened and shocked. We will miss her very much."

No word on who cleaned up Maria's litter.
