The man who died after being shot by mistake while doing a crossword puzzle had sat on the sidewalk to rest when criminals started shooting, says the Military Police (PM). Security cameras recorded the exact moment the 65-year-old man was shot “The elderly man was at the fair and sat on the sidewalk of the distributor to rest. He was drinking a soda and doing crossword puzzles when he was hit,” says Lieutenant Willian Boaventura.Father believes son was killed by mistake inside restaurant and 'had nothing to do' with jealousy of shooterUntil the last update of this article, a 16-year-old teenager suspected of shooting into the air was arrested in Bairro Independência. The other man who appears in the video shooting at the elderly man has been identified. Their names were not disclosed and, therefore, g1 did not locate the defense for positioning.According to the PM, the crime happened on Thursday night (30), at the door of a distributor. “Every Thursday night there is a street market in front of the distributor and the elderly man was walking through it”, explains Boaventura. The suspects began shooting while the man was sitting and resting.“Unfortunately, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time”, laments the lieutenant.In the video, initially, it is possible to see the elderly man sitting on the sidewalk next to a can of soda and reading the crossword puzzle. Two other boys also appear in the footage. Then, two other men arrive and appear to be talking to the young men standing there, who then walk towards the victim.At that moment, the teenager pulled out a gun and fired into the air. The other man also takes a gun from his waist and shoots at the elderly man, who is hit by the shot and falls to the ground. Then the two men run away. When apprehended, the teenager said that the target was not the victim.“The teenager said that the targets were the other two boys in the video, who were his rivals from a criminal faction specializing in drug trafficking in the region,” says Boaventura.The teenager must be heard and will respond to an infraction analogous to the crime of homicide, in accordance with the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), says the PM. The case will be investigated by the State Criminal Investigations Office (DEIC) and the Child and Adolescent Protection Office (DPCA).
