A private plane with five on board has crashed into cars on a Florida highway, causing a massive explosion and killing at least two people.

Video footage captured by drivers show the aftermath of the accident Friday afternoon, revealing burning flames emanating from the plane as a brave bystander is seen rushing toward the smoke.

Five people were on board the Bombardier Challenger 600 jet, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot had reported that both engines had failed as he was preparing for landing - before crashing onto Interstate 75 near Naples around 3:15 pm and colliding with a vehicle on the road.

The flight was traveling to the Naples Airport from Ohio State, according to FlightAware data.

All southbound lanes are reportedly closed for 24 hours. There is large police and emergency response.
