A suspected extortionist lost his life after detonating an explosive device he was allegedly attempting to place in front of a business located on Avenida Casanave, behind the Metro de La Pascana, in the district of Comas. The incident occurred on Sunday night, January 11, 2026, shortly after 9:00 p.m., causing panic among local residents who heard the blast.According to initial reports, the device detonated accidentally, causing severe injuries primarily to the man's arm and the front of his torso. Following the incident, he was rushed to the Sergio E. Bernales National Hospital in Collique. Sources indicate he was admitted at 9:15 p.m. but passed away ten minutes later due to traumatic shock caused by his injuries.The deceased was identified as Pedro Franzua Arellan Solis, 18, whose registered address was in the Collique sector, also within the Comas district. Preliminary information suggests the explosive was intended to be placed outside a hardware store, reinforcing the hypothesis that this was a case of attempted extortion.National Police officers cordoned off the area to conduct the necessary investigations and to determine if others were involved, as well as the origin of the explosive material. Neighbors indicated that the area is monitored by video surveillance cameras, and the footage will be key to clarifying the events.
