An investigation is underway after deputies shot and killed a man in Bellflower on Friday night.Deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 10400 block of Artesia Boulevard just before 9 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The shooting occurred shortly after when deputies contacted the suspect, who was reported to be armed with a firearm.More details about what prompted deputies to shoot were not provided.Authorities say the man was struck and taken to the hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released.No deputies were injured in the incident.Aerial footage from NewsChopper4 showed more than a dozen law enforcement vehicles at the scene and what appeared to be a handgun on the sidewalk.As with all LASD deputy shootings that result in a person getting struck, multiple independent investigations will take place, including by the Homicide Bureau and the Internal Affairs Bureau. The LASD also notified the Office of the Inspector General.
