Barcelona Sporting Club player Mario Pineida was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon (12/17/2025) after a gun attack in north Guayaquil, one of the roughest areas in the country. The shooting went down outside a small business in the Samanes 4 neighborhood.

Ecuador’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed the hit, while the club dropped an official statement saying they’re heartbroken and shocked by the loss. Barcelona SC said they’ll announce memorial plans soon and asked people to keep Pineida and his family in their prayers during this tough time.
