"SAN MARCOS, Texas – A suspect was arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that left two people dead near the Texas State University campus, according to San Marcos police.

Jermiah Jayden Tobias, 19, was taken into custody just after 8 p.m. Saturday. He faces two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault, authorities said.

San Marcos police officers responded to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. Saturday near San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street.

Police said the shooting began after a fight between two men who knew each other. A third man joined the altercation after stealing a necklace from one of the men. A fourth person, later identified as Tobias, then fired multiple shots.

Anthony Barrera, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene by Hays County Justice of the Peace Jo Anne Prado. Alek Pacheco, 20, was taken to a hospital in San Marcos, where he later died.

A third victim suffered a graze wound and was treated and released from the hospital, police said.
