Rio - A military police officer was shot by criminals this Wednesday morning (27) in the North Zone of Rio. He was taken in serious condition to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital, in Penha.

The PM is stationed at the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Jacarezinho and was moving along Avenida Dom Hélder Câmara. He was hit when the vehicle was passing the Benfica viaduct, between the favelas of Manguinhos and Jacarezinho.

According to the Military Police, the officer was rescued by colleagues in uniform and was initially taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Manguinhos. After receiving first aid, he was transferred to a more specialized hospital.
