Monterey County District Attorney's Office has released the body-warn camera video from a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened in Carmel-By-The-Sea last Friday.911 callers reported a man moving through the neighborhood dressed in tactical gear armed with pepper spray, a knife, a 3-foot-long crowbar, and what appeared to be a rifle. One caller said the man, identified as resident James Marshall, held them at gunpoint with what later turned out to be a BB rifle.Carmel Police Chief Paul Tomasi, Sergeant Gerald Maldonado, and Officer Rene Guevara responded to Marshall’s residence and were confronted by him in front of the house. He was carrying the3-foot-long crowbar and was wearing ballistic body armor with coverage to his front and back.Marshall refused to drop the crowbar and surrender and was hit by non-lethal bean bags, which had no effect. The officers chased Marshall into his backyard where he disobeyed orders and was hit with additional bean bag rounds. He then charged at Sgt. Maldonado with the crowbar and Officer Guevara fired five shots from his service pistol.Marshall continued to resist arrest and advanced toward the officers and was hit by more bean bag rounds and a Taser, which again were ineffective.Officer Guevara tackled Marshall and officers handcuffed him. They immediately began providing medical aid until first responders took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
