The Syracuse Police Department is investigating the use of force by officers during an arrest early Saturday morning following outcry on social media calling for an investigation into the incident.

Officers said they responded to a disturbance outside of Nick's Tomato Pie in Armory Square around 1:40 a.m. Saturday. The department said during the incident they used force against a woman who was being arrested.

"Transparency is our friend," Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile told reporters Monday at a news conference.

Body cam footage released by police Monday shows the suspect allegedly stealing a tip jar and pushing a cashier before leaving. Footage then shows the suspect spitting in the officer's face and trying to leave the restaurant. An officer then appeared to grab her by the back of the neck as she walked away. The woman was then arrested but resisted, then hit her head on a window during the struggle. As she was being walked away, footages shows her kicking the back of a car window out.
