A municipal police officer in Cancún was injured in the hand when he confronted a man armed with a machete, who attacked him when he went to respond to a report of family violence. The aggressor, identified as Luis Enrique N, died from the shots that the uniformed officer fired at him in self-defense.The incident occurred early this Saturday in the Paraíso Maya neighborhood, superblock 107, where police officer Serafín N and his partner arrived to answer a call for help from a woman who reported that her partner was hitting her.Upon arriving at the home, the agents found the subject, who was under the influence of alcohol and appeared aggressive. Without saying a word, the man took out a machete and hit police officer Serafín, who managed to partially dodge it, but suffered the mutilation of two fingers on his left hand.The police officer reacted and fired his firearm at the attacker, who fell to the ground seriously injured. Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the police officer to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. The attacker, however, died at the scene from gunshot wounds.
