According to the official report, this accident was caused by a former Bulgarian football player. His Audi vehicle crashed into a taxi, with witnesses claiming that he was driving with at least 150km/h. As well, two women were killed on the sidewalk after pieces of the vehicle flew in the air and hit them.

The perpetrator ran away afterwards, where he could be seen moving in a few security cameras. The police later discovered him in his apartment after finding his traces from the scene. The investigation concluded that he was driving with a fake license and two types of drugs were found in his body.

In addition, this driver had 49 violations in his traffic history. Initially, it was suspected that he was driving with a woman who held a job in the police department, with this information later being disproved. Though this being the case, it was later stated that this woman helped him hide from the scene, with one of the main facts being that she gave him a ladder to climb into his apartment after losing his keys. Besides this, another suspicion was flowing around that they got to know each other a year ago when this driver was stopped by her to have a check and then she was receiving 1000 Euros from him monthly to help him constantly hide away.
