Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre gave an update on the investigation that led to the arrest of an Ascension Parish deputy at a news conference at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18.

An approximately two-week investigation ended with the termination and arrest of a supervisor with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Seth Boudreaux had been with the sheriff’s office for 10 years.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a home on Meadow Drive in Prairieville. The situation involved a husband, wife, and 17-month-old child.

Deputies arrived on the scene to find the woman pushed against the wall and the husband, identified as Darren Regira, holding the child, according to Webre.

Deputies got the child away from Regira. Webre said the situation required force.

The father reportedly continued to resist and took a gun belt off a deputy, according to Webre. Deputies restrained the man. He was handcuffed and walked toward a police car. He tried to pull away while in the driveway and went to the ground. Webre said one of the supervisors then “punched him in the face multiple times. At that point, that was excessive force, should not have happened.”

A total of six deputies responded to the scene, according to Webre.

Other supervisors discovered this incident while reviewing body-worn camera video. This led to an internal investigation, followed by a criminal investigation.

Boudreaux was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 18, and charged with simple battery and malfeasance in office. The former supervisor posted a $5,500 bond and was released from jail.

“It’s important for us for the transparency of our department that when we find something that’s wrong, that we can self-report, that we can take care of these issues and we can learn from it and move on,” said Webre.

Webre also said the former deputy will be placed on a list that’ll prevent him from being hired by other law enforcement agencies.
