On June 2nd, 2024, at approximately 10:27AM, officers responded to 2900 Peachtree Road NW in reference to a business burglary. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the reporting party for the business who stated that an unidentified male had gained access to the business through a rear door and took $279 in cash from the cash register.

The reporting party provided officers with surveillance footage which showed an unidentified black male wearing a distinctive Truett McConnell basketball sweatshirt. While canvassing the shopping center for the suspect, an officer encounters a male who matches the suspect's description. The officer instructs the male to turn around (so that the officer can detain the suspect) but the suspect ignores the instruction and flees from the officer on foot. A foot pursuit ensues and though the suspect can create a significant distance, the officer continues to pursue and is able to maintain a visual of the suspect.

The officer notifies dispatch that the suspect is fleeing into a nearby Publix store where additional officers respond to and ultimately apprehended the suspect. The suspect is later identified as 22-year-old Benny Brathwaite. Mr. Brathwaite is placed into custody and charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and Misdemeanor Willful Obstruction of a Police Officer. Mr. Brathwaite was transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
