On Sunday, March 26, 2023,at approximately 10:04 a.m., NYPD Police Officer Trupia and Police Officer Bernard responded to 2685 Grand Concourse, Bronx, for a 911 call for an emotionally disturbed person armed with a knife. Upon arrival, the officers were met in front of the location by the caller and directed toward the entrance of the building. In addition, the caller confirmed that 42-year-old Raul Delacruz was in possession of a knife. As the officers approached the front of the location, Delacruz exited the building and produced a knife from his pocket, which he wielded in his right hand. Police Officer Trupia and Police Officer Bernard ordered Delacruz to drop his knife; however, he instead began to advance toward the officers. As Delacruz advanced toward them, Police Officer Trupia discharged five shots from his service firearm and Police Officer Bernard discharged two shots from his service firearm. Delacruz was struck by the gunfire and fell to the ground. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital to be treated for his injuri
