Illinois State Police are investigating a police chase and fatal officer-involved shooting in Aurora of a suspect who was wanted in a home invasion and homicide in Plano.The family of a 70-year-old homicide victim told ABC7 that the victim's adult son was the suspect in the fatal Plano shooting who later died in the officer-involved shooting in Aurora.Several police agencies were involved in the initial search for the suspect that began in Plano on Friday.Just before 6:45 p.m., officials said deputies with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office responded to assist the Plano Police Department for a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street, the sheriff's office said in a release.Officers discovered a 70-year-old man who had been shot multiple times inside a home at the location. He died from his injuries, Plano police said.The victim was later identified by the Kendall County Coroner's Office as Russell Novak.Responding officers found a car believed to be involved in the fatal shooting in the area. Police pursued the vehicle all the way to the area of Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora, where deputies and officers from multiple agencies encountered the armed suspect who had exited the vehicle, police said."Deputies and officers, facing a lethal threat, engaged the subject to protect the public and themselves," a news release read.The suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at a deputy, resulting in the deputy and a Plano police officer firing their guns and shooting the suspect, a Saturday afternoon update from the Kendall County Sheriff's Office read.Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect, authorities said. The suspect was taken to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora and was pronounced dead, according to ISP.
