A 19-year-old identified as Mauricio David Vargas González died after being stabbed in the Puerto Bolívar parish of the Machala canton . This event was recorded on security cameras.

The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26 , 2022, when he was sitting on a corner near the Simon Bolívar school.

According to the police report, the young man did not survive and died when he was transferred by ambulance to the Teófilo Dávila hospital, where his death was confirmed.

The recording shows that Mauricio David is sitting looking at his cell phone. Moments later two people arrive on a motorcycle. One of them gets out, approaches to take the cell phone. The young man resists a little and dodges him. Before that, the assailant stabs him in the back and they flee the place.
