Charleston Police Officers responded to a request for a well-being check of a man, later identified as 22-year-old Yahacov Dennis of County Club Hills, IL at a gas station at 200 W. Lincoln Ave. in Charleston. Dennis, visibly distressed, told them he had smoked marijuana and suspected it was laced with PCP. As officers attempted to calm him and gather information for paramedics, Dennis' condition worsened, and he began shaking uncontrollably. In a sudden escalation, he managed to grab an officer’s firearm, firing a single shot. Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures before Dennis was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
