A 20-year-old woman was shot dead on Tuesday afternoon, April 29, in the Poço neighborhood of Lajedo, in the Agreste region of Pernambuco. The victim, identified as Emily Nogueira de Souza, was killed in front of the house where she lived.

According to preliminary information, two men approached on a motorcycle. The passenger got off, pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at the young woman, who died at the scene, before help arrived. Her death was confirmed by a SAMU team.

The suspects fled shortly after and have not yet been located. The motive for the crime is unknown.

Emily had lost her boyfriend, Aldemir da Silva Santos, just over a month earlier. He was murdered in March inside his own home, in the Vilela subdivision, also in Lajedo, after armed men broke into the house and executed him.

The Civil Police are investigating whether the two homicides are related. Emily's body was sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Caruaru. The case is being investigated by the Lajedo Police Station.
