Following a court petition, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released bodycam video Monday in connection to a shooting back in February where an officer shot and injured an armed man while responding to suspected drug activity.

The incident happened on Thursday morning, Feb. 8, in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road.

According to CMPD, this area was being actively monitored by surveillance used by the department’s Real Time Crime Center as part of its crime reduction initiatives.

During this time, the RTCC observed a man on video surveillance take out a firearm, which had been hidden in his waistband, and ‘manipulate’ the weapon before hiding it again, CMPD said.

Officers were called to the scene and once there, CMPD said the responding officers saw what appeared to be a drug transaction between the armed man, identified as Timothy Deangelo Moore, 33, and another person in the parking lot of the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road.

As CMPD officers came upon Moore, they said he took off. Officers ran after Moore, shouting at him to drop his hands. During the chase, they said Moore pulled out his firearm and turned his body in the direction of a CMPD officer.

CMPD said this officer “perceived an imminent and lethal threat and fired a single shot at Moore, causing him to fall to the ground.”

CMPD said Moore received medical aid at the scene and a firearm was recovered.

Moore was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, and once released from the hospital, he was arrested. Moore was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Moores has since been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail. A scheduling conference has been set for July 1, 2024, in Moores’ criminal case.
