A nurse from a nursing home located on Luis Montoto Avenue in Seville was one of the first to come to the aid of the man who died this Thursday, October 22, after injuring himself with a knife in the middle of a public road.

The paramedic left his workplace after receiving the alert about what was happening and found the man in the middle of the road, near the Caños de Carmona. There he tried to talk to him and take away the knife to prevent him from hurting himself further, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

"We were called in a hurry because there was a man self-harming," recounts the nurse, recalling those first moments. "When I went outside, I saw the man alone and tried to disarm him and talk to him, but it was impossible."

The healthcare professional was initially without support from the emergency services and decided to intervene due to the seriousness of the situation. According to his testimony, the man was standing in the road with a large knife while vehicles continued to drive along the avenue.

The paramedic explained that he tried to disarm him before the police arrived. At one point, he managed to knock him to the ground, but the man didn't drop the knife and got back up. "When I tried to approach him, I pushed him from behind, he fell to the ground, but he didn't let go of the knife; he got back up," he recalled.

As the scene unfolded, some vehicles stopped upon seeing what was happening. The nurse maintains that, in his opinion, the man did not intend to attack other people, but rather to prevent them from approaching. "The man didn't want to harm anyone. He was making threats, but it was clear they were threats to keep people away because he wanted to inflict the injuries on himself," he explains.

When the man finally collapsed on the road, the paramedic began performing life-saving maneuvers. "Once he fell to the ground, we started applying pressure to the wound," he explained. The paramedic detailed that they also performed chest compressions and attempted to resuscitate him with the assistance of the emergency services.
