New Orleans, Louisiana — The New Orleans Police Department released body camera footage of a raid and shootout at an apartment complex in New Orleans East that left an officer injured. The shooting happened at Interstate 10 near Bundy Road and Lake Forest Boulevard on April 21.The NOPD officer was shot in the right arm and rushed to the hospital after an exchange of gunfire. The Suspect, Horace Toppins, 28, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Officers were responding to the report of an aggravated assault suspect in a residence in the 6700 block of Bundy Road. When officers went into the house, Toppins allegedly came out and opened fire on officers. Two officers fired their weapons a total of seven times between them: Kevin Doucette, the officer who was shot in his right arm; and Sasha Winchester, who wasn't injured. According to the Police, Toppins left the bathroom and attempted to flee the apartment through a bedroom window. However, Doucette managed to trap him under his body. As the pair struggled, Toppins' gun went off twice more. Toppins' gun went off a total of nine times during his arrest. Officer Doucette, who was shot once in the arm, sustained non-life threatening injuries. The 28-year-old Horace Toppins was arrested and was not injured. He is in custody in lieu of $529,000 bail on counts including attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.
