A taxi jumped a curb and struck two pedestrians outside a small grocery store on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Friday afternoon, sending one woman down a basement stairwell and throwing another onto the sidewalk, authorities said. The crash occurred near the corner of Rivington Street and Essex Street when the vehicle lost control and slammed into the front of a neighborhood shop. Both survived, somehow.
