Punches were flying in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour in Brampton on Tuesday.

The melee, involving up to eight people, was captured on video by the CityNews 680 helicopter at the intersection of Steeles Avenue East and Airport Road near Highway 407 at around 6:15 p.m.

The video shows several black vehicles stopped, including a car with apparent front-end damage, and several men congregating in the middle of the roadway.

Two of the vehicles have flashing lights and appear to be tow trucks. When one of them drives off, the violence suddenly erupts.

One man appears to throw a punch and suddenly the group is tussling and tumbling in the intersection.

Traffic reporter Kyle Hocking was in the chopper and witnessed the chaotic scene, saying it started after a two-vehicle rear-end crash.

“There was a large group of people who were talking and everything seemed to be under control. Then, all of a sudden, punches were thrown, and everyone got into it,” he explained.

“I didn’t see who started the whole thing, but it appeared to be one of the tow truck drivers who stepped in to break things up. The group then separated, and the crash was cleared out of the intersection a short time later.

“It didn’t appear to me that anyone was injured, and I didn’t see any police on the scene while the fight happened.”

Despite the brazen nature of the brawl, Peel Regional Police say they aren’t aware of it, and haven’t received any collision or fight calls in that area.
