A man said to be a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) contractor is now in the hospital battling for his life after he was reportedly injured while attending to a high tension electric wire in Trench Town, Kingston on Wednesday.

Residents told Loop News that there was no electricity in the area since Tuesday and a team from JPS was called to the area.

Reports are that while the employee was on a utility pole there was a loud sound.

One female from the community said as soon as she heard the loud explosion she looked up and saw the man dangling from the wire.

"The contractor got severe burns to his upper body and was assisted by residents and a fire brigade team to the hospital where he has since been admitted," one source who was on the ground said.
