Steven Kwembe, 28, was shot and killed Wednesday after he allegedly attacked four people inside a Richardson restaurant with a knife, police said.

RICHARDSON, Texas — Richardson police have released body-camera footage after officers fatally shot a man late Wednesday night, after authorities say he attacked four people with a knife inside a restaurant.

Police responded around 10 p.m. Wednesday to Good Vibes Bar & Grill, located in a shopping center within the 2100 block of East Buckingham Road, regarding a report of a man with a knife threatening to harm people, the Richardson Police Department said in a press release.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man standing outside a restaurant with a knife, according to the release. Officers were also informed that there were several victims located inside the restaurant, police said.

Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Steven Kwembe.

Body‑camera video shows officers confronting Kwembe outside the bar, repeatedly ordering him to drop the knife before opening fire when he refused.

Two officers then fired their weapons, striking Kwembe, police said. He received medical care and was transported to the hospital, where he later died, officials say.

The four victims injured in the attack inside the restaurant were also transported to the hospital, according to police. The extent of their injuries is not clear.

The two officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The bar later posted a message to customers on social media, saying staff members are shaken and calling the violence “extremely unnecessary.” The business plans to reopen Friday. For many who frequent the area, the hope now is that the sense of community isn’t lost.

“We tried to come here for good vibes, and it seems like bad vibes came here last night,” said Jonothan Kim, a regular. He said he was at the bar and grill hours before the attack.

Others described shattered glass and visible blood left behind after the violence.

“Honestly, it’s just shocking… we’ve really never had an incident like that before,” said one man who works in the area.
