The incident occurred last week, according to local residents. A neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “He has been beating the woman for more than four years. That day, he beat her so badly we had to stop him.”

The eyewitness said when neighbors tried to shelter Ebong’s wife, he threatened further violence against her if she ever slept outside their home.

Sources alleged that Ebong is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Uyo branch, but the branch leadership could not be reached for comment on his membership status or whether they were aware of abuse allegations.
