The driver of a truck from the Kiss Baking Company was killed in a collision with a speeding car on the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Thursday morning.

Neil Ballai, 55, of Eccles Trace in Spring Village, Valsayn, died at the scene of the collision.

His co-worker, Terrence Jagasar, 34, of Cumuto, who was sitting alongside him in the truck sustained injuries and was hospitalised.

The speeding car was captured on security camera driving in Preysal with the bonnet of the car smashed, blocking most of the front windscreen.

A police report stated that the crash occurred at around 6.45 a.m. when Ballai was headed south on the highway, driving on the left lane.

When in the vicinity of Couva, a black Hyundai Ionic, driving in the same direction at a high rate of speed, attempted to overtake vehicles in the right lane.

However, the company truck was in the path of the car and it (car) swerved towards the shoulder of the highway, and collided with the rear of the company truck.

Upon impact of the collision, the truck spun out of control and toppled into bushes at the side of the highway.

It landed on the driver's side and Ballai was pinned in the vehicle.

Police said the motorist in the Huyndai Ionic sped off.

However, his vehicle was captured on dash cam footage and quickly shared on social media.

The videos were also shared on the social media platforms of the Trinidad Express, and went viral.

As a result, his registration plates were matched against someone fitting the description.

The person had several traffic infractions against his name, including for driving while holding a cell phone, and driving without valid insurance.

In addition, the front bumper and grill of his vehicle was left at a second crash location in Preysal.

Police have obtained the information.

At the crash site, several police units of the Highway Patrol in Freeport, Couva Police Station as well as officers of the Couva Fire Station responded.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Jagasar was conveyed via an Emergency Health Services ambulance to the Couva District Health Facility for further medical treatment.

ASP Rampartap, Sgt Olivier, Sgt Gervais, Cpl Boodlal, and PCs Campbell and Sudama also responded.

The vehicle was conveyed to the Couva Police Station for forensic examination.

PC Sudama of the Couva Police is investigating.
