Columbus police released video footage of a beating and robbery near the Ohio State University campus last month, and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information about the suspects.

On Oct. 17, four strangers attacked three people getting out of an Uber at about 11:45 p.m. on the 1700 block of High Street, Johnson said.

The encounter started with a verbal altercation, then one of the suspects threw an object at one of the victims, Johnson said. One of the victims approached the suspects and was beaten.

The video shows one suspect, a young man in a red hooded sweatshirt, produce a tire iron and hit several people.

The suspects also kicked one of the victims in the face while he was on the ground.

While the victim was on the ground, a suspect also stole items from his pockets.

The three victims, who police have not identified, suffered concussions and lacerations but are expected to recover fully. Two of them were Ohio State University students.

Detective Shawn Perrigo said it's not clear whether a robbery was the initial motive, adding that it was suspicious that one of the attackers was carrying a tire iron in the first place.

"I don't think that one suspect in a red hoodie just got done changing a tire," Perrigo said. "I mean, here he is, 11:30 at night, in front of a busy bar, restaurant area."

Johnson would not provide a dollar figure for the reward, saying it would depend on how many suspects were arrested and would ultimately be up to the Crime Stoppers of Central Ohio board. Any information provided to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest or indictment in the case will be rewarded.

"Whether you have additional video, whether you have pictures, or believe it might be someone's relative, someone's friend, any bit of information that you have, small or large, can help us solve this case," Johnson said.
