A shocking collision happened at an intersection controlled by flashing lights in Dongshan Township, Yilan. A 25-year-old male driver (surname Lai) in a blue sedan was traveling along Wuhuan Road toward the Dongshan River when he struck a motorcycle ridden by a 39-year-old man (also surname Lai, no relation mentioned) heading toward Luodong on Xingfu 5th Road.Surveillance footage captured the terrifying moment: the impact launched the motorcyclist into the air, where he flipped before slamming into a roadside utility pole and falling to the ground. The sedan lost control, continued forward, and both vehicles plunged into a nearby ditch. Both drivers sustained injuries but were not in life-threatening condition after being rushed to the hospital for treatment. Police confirmed neither was under the influence of alcohol. The cause and responsibility are still under investigation by traffic authorities. The article includes photos (screenshots from surveillance footage) showing the rider being flung through the air and the vehicles in the ditch. It reminds drivers to obey flashing light rules: treat flashing red as a full stop, and flashing yellow as proceed with caution.
