Local media reported an armed attack against National Civil Police (PNC) agents who were traveling aboard the institution's patrol car.

According to residents of the farming community of Las Mercedes, the officers were ambushed, which left one officer dead and another wounded. The deceased had gunshot wounds to the head.

Local residents said that this is the second PNC officer to die in a similar situation in less than three months, and they are asking authorities to control the wave of violence that is plaguing the town.

The versions of the incident are that the officers were chasing some robbers who had robbed a rural cash register; however, it is expected that the Public Ministry (MP) will submit an official report of what happened.
