A man from Tulare County was stabbed to death on Monday in a Northern California prison.Officials at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, Calif. are investigating the death of the incarcerated man as a homicide.They say he was attacked by two other inmates, one of which was from Kings County.HDSP staff saw 26-year-old Ricardo Palmerin from Kings County punch inmate 24-year-old Christian Lepe from Tulare County, knocking him to the ground.The staff saw Palmerin continue to attack Lepe using a stabbing-like motion and then another inmate, 27-year-old David Morales joined in.CDCR officers immediately responded and fired two rubber bullets at Palmerin, which ended the attack.Lepe suffered multiple stab wounds.CDCR staff began life-saving measures and took him to the prison’s medical facility where he died about an hour later.Officers recovered two inmate-manufactured weapons at the scene of the attack.Palmerin and Morales have been placed in segregated housing pending an investigation into their involvement.Lepe was received from Tulare County on Oct. 9, 2017. He was sentenced to nine years for assault with a deadly weapon, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and an enhancement of inflicting great bodily injury involving domestic violence.Palmerin was received from Kings County on March 11, 2015. He was sentenced to 20 years for second-degree attempted murder as a second striker and a street gang enhancement. While in prison, Palmerin in 2015 was sentenced to an additional four years for possession/manufacture of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.Morales was received from San Francisco County on March 1, 2017. He was sentenced to 24 years for assault with a semi-automatic firearm, evading a police officer causing serious bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
