A person was killed and six others were injured in a mass shooting at an illegal street takeover in Carson on Sunday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials confirmed.

Deputies responded just before 3 a.m. to reports of gunfire near Harmon Avenue and Charles Willard Street, where authorities said an illegal street takeover was underway.

When deputies arrived, they found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition, while four others sought medical treatment on their own, investigators said.

Footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA showed a grisly and chaotic scene, with victims lying in the street suffering serious injuries from the gunfire.

A woman who witnessed the violence but asked not to be identified said the gathering had been peaceful moments before the shooting.

“Everything was so nice and then out of the blue,” she said. “It was just like a tragedy going on.”

The witness said she was standing only a few feet away when she saw the gunman approach one of the victims and begin firing.

“He started walking toward the victim and started shooting at him,” she said. “That’s when I started running, and after that I heard four more shots going on.”

She described the shooter as acting erratically during the attack.

“He’s kind of like going crazy with his hand movement, so that’s when I decided to start running,” she said.

Another woman at the scene said one of the victims was her close friend. She said she rushed toward the gunfire and tried to save him while waiting for police to arrive.

“My first instinct was to control the bleeding, feel his pulse and make sure he was still breathing,” she said. “I called 911. I was literally asking everybody to help me pick him up.”

She said two of her other friends were also struck by gunfire. One remains hospitalized and is undergoing surgery after a bullet lodged in his spine.
