On September 16, 2024, in Reston, Virginia, 33 year old Sydney Wilson had a welfare check requested by a mental health professional.

When a Fairfax County police officer Peter Liu arrived and knocked on her apartment door, Wilson eventually opened it holding a knife and attacked the officer, slicing him with the blade.

The officer fired his gun in self defence, striking Wilson a few times before she collapsed.

She was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.
