A 43-year-old man was arrested by police after being suspected of murdering and burning his mother in Malaysia on Sunday.

Police received an emergency call at 7.48 am regarding a man going on a rampage.

Upon arriving at the location, police managed to arrest the suspect and found the body of a 68-year-old woman still burning inside the house.

Initial investigations found that the incident occurred between 7 and 7.30am, when the suspect argued with the victim.

The suspect's 14-year-old son heard his grandmother screaming for help before running away to get help from a neighbor.

Neighbors who saw the incident tried to stop the suspect but were threatened, causing them to call the police.

A check found that the suspect was a mentally disabled.

The victim's body was sent to the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
