An elderly man was lucky to survive when he was thrown through the window of a moving RV and into the path of oncoming traffic after his wife fell asleep at the wheel.Dashcam footage caught the moment the couple crashed on the 14 Freeway in California on Monday morning.Drivers hit their brakes and swerved to avoid the man after the RV hit the concrete divider and he was hurled into the carpool lane on the southbound carriageway outside Newhall.Good Samaritan Alf Smithey pulled over and spoke to the woman after he saw the RV hit the divider and scrape along it for about 600 feet before coming to a halt.'She kept saying 'My husband is not here. My husband is not here', then she kept looking out the window behind her.'She fell asleep and then hit the center divider, I didn't even see the guy leave out of the vehicle.'Smithey ran back up the road spotting the man's shoes, clothes and parts of the RV in the road before finding the man himself lying bloodied but conscious on the inside lane.'He kind of knew everything that happened and he kept asking about his wife, it was pretty cool to see that he was kind of there.''He said is she alright? I said yes, she's just freaked out.'Dramatic dashcam footage shows the man tumbling along the shoulder with his legs splayed in the air as the RV scrapes along the divider sending clouds of dust and smoke into the air.
