A shocking traffic accident occurred in Caotun Township, Nantou County! An 87-year-old female rider exited a gas station in the city area and immediately made a left turn across the road. An oncoming straight-traveling tour bus (All-Direct Bus / 全航客運) was unable to avoid the collision and struck her directly. The grandma's lower body, along with her scooter wheel, became trapped under the bus chassis, leaving her unable to move. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to rescue her before she was rushed to the hospital. She suffered fractures in both legs and required emergency surgery. Witnesses have called on the public to pay more attention to the safety of elderly riders. The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. The elderly woman surnamed Li was riding her scooter out of a gas station on Zhongzheng Road in Caotun Township. As she crossed Zhongzheng Road (heading from Caotun toward Taichung direction), she made an abrupt left turn directly into the opposite lane without yielding. A straight-traveling All-Direct Bus coming from behind had no time to react and collided with her, producing a loud crashing sound. The grandma's lower body and the scooter's front wheel became wedged under the bus chassis. She remained conscious and repeatedly slapped the side of the bus to signal the driver for help. Passersby immediately stopped to call 119 (emergency services), and nearby shop owners rushed out to assist.Firefighters arrived and used tools (including jacks) to lift the bus and free her after approximately 20 minutes. She was in pain but conscious during the rescue and was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment of her bilateral leg fractures.Witnesses uploaded videos of the accident to the local Facebook group "Caotun People" (草屯人), reminding everyone to be cautious about elderly family members riding scooters. Many netizens commented that there are quite a few "moving tombstones" on the roads—not just seniors, but also younger riders who suddenly dash out from side roads or make abrupt turns at several intersections in the city area, which is truly terrifying.Police are continuing to investigate the exact cause, road conditions, and responsibility, but initial reports indicate the elderly rider failed to yield to straight-through traffic while making the turn (commonly referred to as a "ghost cut" in local terms). The bus driver tested negative for alcohol. This incident highlights the importance of defensive driving and caution, especially around gas stations and intersections involving elderly scooter riders. No fatalities occurred, and the woman was reported to be in stable but serious condition after surgery.
