A woman died and two other people were injured after a shootout recorded in the early hours of this Saturday (5), on Rua Mato Grosso, located in the Siqueira Campos neighborhood, West Zone of Aracaju. The case is being investigated by the Homicide and Personal Protection Department (DHPP), of the Civil Police of Sergipe.

The fatal victim was identified as Vanessa de Jesus, who was hit by gunshots. The other two people who were shot survived and are recovering. The Public Security Department (SSP) reported that the shooting began around 3 am, during a generalized disturbance.

The main suspect in the crime is a retired military officer who voluntarily turned himself in at the Police Station shortly after the incident. In his statement, he claimed that he acted in self-defense after an argument with a young woman and the group that accompanied her. The officer filed a police report and was later released.

The DHPP has already begun investigations to determine all the details of the case. Witnesses are being interviewed and other evidence is being gathered to form part of the police investigation.
