In Mersin, an 80-year-old man was assaulted by a helmeted attacker who attempted to break his neck. The elderly man, who was taken to intensive care, had his daughter recount the details of the incident. Police, after reviewing 380 hours of security camera footage, apprehended and arrested the suspect.

In an incident that occurred on July 24th in Türkmen Street, Koyuncu Neighborhood, Erdemli district of Mersin , 80-year-old Hasan Hüseyin Belen was attacked by a person wearing a helmet and gloves while sitting in his garden. The suspect, who tried to break the neck of Belen, a father of six who has been having difficulty walking for about 3 years, kicked him repeatedly in the head after he fell to the ground and then fled the scene.

Hours later, Ayfer Uyanık, the daughter who came home to feed her father, found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Upon realizing what had happened, Uyanık called for help, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The elderly man received initial treatment at Erdemli State Hospital and was then transferred to Mersin City Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. The entire incident was captured on the house's security camera.

The suspect, AY, was apprehended in a simultaneous operation conducted at three different addresses. After being questioned on charges of attempted murder , the suspect was taken to court and subsequently arrested. It was learned that the suspect confessed to assaulting the elderly man years ago due to an incident that occurred previously .

Ayfer Uyanık stated that her father was fighting for his life in intensive care, adding that he had only a 1% chance of survival and that he was brain dead. Uyanık said, “He came from behind and tried to break his neck. In the struggle, my father fell to the ground along with the chair. When he fell, he stomped on his head with his foot. Thinking he had neutralized him, he ran away into the bushes.” Expressing her trust in justice, Uyanık demanded the harshest possible punishment for the suspect, describing the attack as a “monstrous act, a monstrous assault .”
