A 19-year-old was shot and killed by a Lafayette County Sheriff's Office deputy early Friday.The incident began around 2 a.m., when Johnson County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the area of Missouri Highway 131 and U.S. Highway 50 on reports of a shooting, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. The shooting suspect fled on foot before deputies arrived.The Johnson County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office to establish a perimeter and conduct a search. The Odessa Police Department also responded to help.Just before 4 a.m., a Lafayette County deputy, a Johnson County deputy and an Odessa police officer responded to a report of two males walking near U.S. Highway 50 and NW 1601 Road.One of the males matched the description of the suspect from the shooting earlier that morning, the highway patrol said. He fled on foot, and the Lafayette County deputy and Odessa police officer pursued the suspect.During that pursuit, the Lafayette County deputy fired his weapon, striking the suspect, who was identified as a 19-year-old.The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.The highway patrol is investigating the shooting involving the deputy. The Johnson County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office is investigating the original shooting.
