COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Colorado Springs Police Department shared video of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 22 in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle, near Galley Road and Powers Boulevard.

Video of the shooting is attached at the bottom of this article. Warning: the video is graphic.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the violent fugitive offender task force found a vehicle belonging to a suspect wanted for first-degree kidnapping around 2:48 p.m.

Once the driver was positively identified, police said detectives began following the vehicle and requested backup.

Around 3:30 p.m., police said officers saw the suspect parked on Branding Iron Circle and contacted the suspect to take him into custody.

CSPD said they identified themselves as police officers and told the suspect that he was under arrest, commanding him to exit his vehicle.

According to police, the suspect refused and tried to drive away, but officers used their vehicle to block the suspect’s vehicle.

Officers said they, after again asking him to exit his vehicle and surrender, used a 40 millimeter impact round to break the back window to deploy gas into the car. Before they were able to deploy the gas, police said they realized the suspect had a gun.

CSPD said the suspect then exited the vehicle and confronted officers with the gun.

According to CSPD, that was then two officers fired several rounds at the suspect.

Medical personnel then arrived on scene, and the suspect was pronounced dead, police said. The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Cole Vannuci.

Police said the gun the suspect was carrying was then identified as an Airsoft gun, which replicated an MP5 rifle. They said the gun did not have any orange safety indicators.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded and is investigating CSPD’s use of force.
