A routine traffic stop for police turned into absolute mayhem. On Friday, Thomas Restifo, 35, of Eastlake was pulled over for speeding and weaving. "And it went downhill pretty rapidly," acting Police Chief Geoffrey Esser said. Restifo allegedly spit on and tried to grab the arresting officer who was trying to give him a sobriety test. Restifo was put in the back seat of the cruiser. He kicked out and shattered the two rear windows. The entire incident was caught on the arresting officer's body cam. Eastlake police were called to help, and Restifo was taken to Eastlake's jail.

Police say he then used toilet paper to stop up his holding cell's toilet, flooding the cell and part of the jail with a couple of inches of water.Restifo was then moved to the Lake County Jail. He was charged with felony assault of a police officer, felony vandalism, OVI, resisting arrest, criminal damaging, speeding and not producing his driver's license. He was released on $5,000 bond and has a Dec. 11 preliminary hearing. He could spend up to two and a half years in prison if convicted on all counts.
