At 11PM on July 8, 2021, a food delivery man was struck and killed by vehicle in New York City. A 24-year-old man by the name of Borkot Ullah Munna was born and raised in the states, specifically in New York City. His family originally came from Nabgram village of Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district of Bangladesh. Now in the concrete jungle, he made a living out of deliveries. Unfortunately it is what also cost his life. In the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, across the Prospect Park City Hall, the Bangladeshi man was on a delivery and crossed East Houston street on his e-bike. That’s when a speeding black Subaru Outback ran thru a red light and struck Borkot, causing severe body trauma. The Outback was already being chased by police when this occurred, but the officer stopped to check on Borkot’s condition. The Outback didn’t stop and left heading northbound on FDR drive, according to NYPD. Ullah was a member of Desis Rising Up and Moving, an undocumented workers’ rights group, according to Shahana Hanif, who recently won the Democratic primary to represent Park Slope in the City Council. She said the South Asian membership group has many members in the 39th Council district. She was horrified by the crash. “We truly cannot have safe streets without immigrant voices,” she said.A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family during the difficult time of losing a loved one. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-family-of-killed-delivery-workerThis upload includes a dashcam, two CCTV videos, and a short aftermath of the accident.
