Military police officer shot dead during an operation in Cachoeiro.

Paulo Henrique Carvalho Faccin, 28, reportedly got into a physical altercation with a suspect, who took his weapon and fired the shot.

A military police officer died after being shot during an approach this Saturday (15), in the São Luiz Gonzaga neighborhood, in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the south of Espírito Santo.

According to the police report, the officers were patrolling when they attempted to approach Luan de Oliveira Cleto, 25 years old . According to the police report, the suspect allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with soldier Paulo Henrique Carvalho Faccin , took the officer's weapon, and fired a shot that struck the officer in the head.

After the shot was fired , the other soldier who was with Paulo Henrique reacted and shot Luan. The suspect died at the scene.

Paulo Henrique received medical attention and was taken in serious condition to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Cachoeiro hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical team , the soldier did not survive his injuries and died.

The Military Police reported that, as of Saturday night, they had not yet obtained images showing the full dynamics of the approach and confrontation. Therefore , the circumstances of the case remain under investigation.

According to police records , Luan had been a fugitive from the prison system since December 2024. His record shows several entries and exits from the system since 2019.

Furthermore, the survey points to cases related to drug trafficking and records of other police incidents. Among the cases are records involving stolen vehicles, possession of marijuana, threats, and an incident classified as attempted homicide due to resistance to police action.

Paulo Henrique Carvalho Faccin was 28 years old and a member of the 9th Battalion of the Military Police. The soldier completed the Soldier Training Course in November 2025 .

Following the confirmation of the death , the PMES (Military Police of Espírito Santo) expressed its condolences for the loss and offered its solidarity to the family, friends, and fellow officers.

The corporation highlighted the soldier's actions and honored his memory. Meanwhile , the investigation should clarify the sequence of events during the encounter.
