On July 30, 2021, a timber truck lost control and devastated a town. The truck was rolling down a hill on the R40, passing thru a small town in South Africa called Nelspruit. That’s when locals saw the truck approach the downtown at full speed, crashing into cars and tossing them like one would kick rocks. The truck eventually fell into a ditch and caught fire, where the driver “burned alive beyond recognition”, according to Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Deaprtment of Community Safety. Near the Riverside Mall, the accident caused a total of 5 injuries, and one death: the burnt truck driver. The exact cause has not been fully determined and an investigation is in pursuit.
