Two women died in a serious traffic accident that occurred Friday afternoon (March 13) on the MGC-458 highway, kilometer 84, in the Taruaçu district of Tarumirim, in the Río Doce Valley. According to the Military Highway Police, there were four people in the vehicle. According to the driver's statement to police, he at some point lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and struck a tree on the side of the highway. As a result of the impact, two female passengers in the back seat died at the scene. The victims have been identified as Miriam Silva Mendes, 30, and Elizabete Cândido de Jesus, 57. The driver and front seat passenger were rescued by a municipal ambulance and taken to a hospital in Tarumirim.
