A man has died after exchanging gunfire with Goodyear police officers in Avondale on Wednesday evening, police said. He’s been identified as 23-year-old Tinse Peterson.

According to Goodyear Police Officer Duane King, it started when a woman called 911 after she said a man waved a gun at her while reportedly panhandling near a Dairy Queen on McDowell Road a few blocks west of Dysart Road. When officers got to the restaurant, he was already gone but they soon caught up to him, and police say Peterson lifted his shirt to show a handgun. He then began walking away from officers.
