“I need police at Berry Lane Apartments,” a caller told the 911 dispatcher. “Some lady just walked outside, stared at me, got a gun in the air and told us to call the cops, so we are.”

The beginning of a terrifying situation is all heard on this 911 phone call.

You can hear fear in this neighbor's voice who tells the dispatcher he is with his four-month-old son.

“She’s here now with her gun out,” the caller said. “Please get somebody here. Please get somebody here. She’s coming at us with a gun.”

Miami Township Police Chief Mike Mills explained it is unclear why she started shooting.

“Nobody knows,” Mills said. “She lives alone.”

Dashcam video from the police department shows officers getting to the apartment complex Friday night.

Chief Mills said they have been to the woman's apartment before.

“One of the officers that was on scene knew her and was calling her out by name and asking her not to touch the gun, screaming ‘Don’t touch the gun,’” he said.

The woman is seen walking from the building towards officers.

Nearly 10 seconds later, she fired at them. One officer stands up with his gun and she shoots again.

Mills said that officer fired six rounds hitting the woman.

“He did a really good job at talking to her and rendering aid afterwards,” Mills said.

EMS arrived at the scene and air care was called, but she died before making it to the hospital.

“Our intent when we shoot is to stop the threat,” Mills said. “It’s not to kill anyone.”

The officers on scene had never been involved in a shooting.

Police believe the woman did have mental health problems.

No officers were injured, and an investigation is ongoing.
